Established in 1898, the church features multiple golden adornments reaching to the sky, making it easily visible from its Outwater Lane location.
The tradition of its history stayed alive through many of its longstanding members, the Rev. Daniel Sudol said.
"I'm 82 and they call me 'sonnny,'" Sudol told Daily Voice.
The congregation kept many older parishioners even if membership slowed over the years, Sudol said.
Sudol, a member of the church council for 50 years, joins the Rev. George Konyev on the current Garfield staff.
A century ago it was founded by Russian immigrants plus people from Slovakia, Hungary and Austria, Sudol said.
Today parishioners come from the first, second or third generations of those founders with some new immigrants and converts to the faith as well.
"We're very traditional," Sudol said.
Many younger members live far away and travel to the services, he said. A typical liturgy can have around 100 people there.
Sudol became more accustomed with the faith after converting 61 years ago and visiting Russia in the 1980s to go back to its roots.
